Danielle Collins is on a roll during her farewell season as she is undergoing an absolute renaissance in form. The American tennis star has clinched two back-to-back WTA singles titles in Miami and Charleston, while she has also reached the top 15 rankings on the women’s tour. However, Collins’ stellar run this season might now be disrupted as she has faced a brutal snub from the upcoming Stuttgart Open.
The newly crowned Charleston Open champion previously failed to secure a spot in the main draw of the Stuttgart Open as she was ranked 53rd on the tour when the registrations for the WTA 500 tournament ended in mid-March. Collins also didn’t receive a wild card because the organizers had already distributed them earlier. Aside from Laura Siegemund and Tatjana Maria, the likes of the former Grand Slam champions Emma Raducanu and Angelique Kerber have also received a wild card invite.
As she didn’t receive a wild card invite, Collins could only book a place in the main draw of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix if she prevailed in the qualifying rounds. After facing a brutal snub, the former number 7 player has decided that she will not be playing in this season’s indoor sand court tournament, as she has now made her decision clear.
