KAHULUI–The American Red Cross announced on Friday via a press release that Tony Briggs will be serving as the interim Regional Chief Executive Officer for the Pacific Islands Region, which includes the state of Hawaii, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa.
Briggs joined the Pacific Islands Region on May 6 and will remain in place as the organization begins the search for a new CEO.
Previously, he served as the Regional CEO for the Central California Region, leading a team of 30 staff and nearly 2,000 volunteers throughout the 11-county region that serves the heart of California from the Sierra Nevada to the Pacific Ocean. He has deployed to assist on several large-scale disasters such as Hurricane Harvey in Houston, the Route 66 shooting in Las Vegas, the Camp Fire in Paradise, CA and many others. He is also a member of the American Red Cross Black Executive Steering Committee and a certified diversity coach.
Briggs joined the Red Cross in 2014 after a 24-year career in the United States Navy. One of his memorable highlights includes leading 80 Sailors deployed throughout the Western Pacific in support of humanitarian actions.
“It’s an absolute honor to work with this team of humanitarians,” said Briggs. “I am eager to roll up my sleeves to help our neighbors prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters, big and small.”
A native of Philadelphia and a graduate of the University of Maryland, University College, Briggs has been married for nearly 30 years to his wife Kelly. They are the proud parents of five children and enjoy spoiling their four grandchildren.
