ROBERT Griffin III has been outed at ESPN after the hiring of Jason Kelce.
With Kelce being added to the Monday Night Football roster, Griffin was the odd man out.
ESPN announced on Tuesday that Kelce will join ESPN’s pregame show Monday Night Countdown during the regular season.
He will also make appearances on Super Bowl studio coverage and ESPN’s coverage of the 2027 Super Bowl.
“Jason is a highly respected, Super Bowl Champion with a strong connection to fans,” Burke Magnus, ESPN president of content, said.
“Walking off the field and immediately to ESPN, viewers will benefit from his perspective which has been shaped through his years as an established locker room leader and a future Hall of Fame center.
“Jason’s addition to Monday Night Countdown will greatly strengthen our NFL coverage.”
Kelce also expressed his excitement for joining ESPN and staying around football after leaving the NFL.
“Turns out, it was a short retirement! I’m excited to join ESPN, and particularly the Monday Night Countdown team,” Kelce said.
“ESPN was a consistent presence in our household growing up and the network helped shape who I am and my love of all sports.
“To now appear on that same screen is a full circle moment. And, I mean it’s freaking Monday Night Football! and I’m ready for some football.”
However, the addition of Kelce means a demotion for Griffin out of the Monday Night Football crew.
Griffin initially joined the show in 2022 to replace Randy Moss, but only spent two seasons there.
The former NFL quarterback will be retained by ESPN though, continuing to do studio work and call games for the network.
Fans had mixed opinions about Griffin leaving the show, but were all in favor of the addition of Kelce.
“Robert Griffin III just could not stop himself from talking over everyone. Peace out,” one fan said.
“I know I’m in the minority but I liked RG3. He had great energy,” another fan said.
ONLY one matchup has been confirmed for the 2024 NFL regular season so far.
That is the Week 1 clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers on Friday, September 6.
The game is being played at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and will be streamed live on Peacock across the United States.
We also know the identity of the home teams for the three games in London, England, and one in Munich, Germany.
The Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings will host games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while the other London home team will be the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.
The Carolina Panthers are also confirmed for the game at Munich’s Allianz Arena.
“Too bad, I enjoyed RGIII’s frank and well articulated commentary,” a third fan said.
“I like RG3 but this is a good move. RG3 was always to gimicky and off script talking to people lol,” a fourth fan said.
“Fan of Jason and he will do great. But RGIII was great too. It’s a shame he had to be dropped,” a fifth fan said.
Kelce’s Monday Night Football schedule will be unveiled on Wednesday when the NFL releases the official league schedule.
