The incident happened on Friday as the country’s top legislative body was deliberating to bestow more power to the government. The brawl happened in the aftermath of people electing Lai Ching-te as the country’s upcoming new leader. The opposition parties in the island nation are rallying against the legislature’s move for additional oversight of the government.

Punches being thrown and the chamber curtain being torn were captured on camera during the brawl. The opposition-led by Kuomintang (KMT) Party is opposing the newly elected government, which wants to ram through the bill that speaks about imposing penalties on officials found lying inside the legislative house.
Although fights in Taiwan’s legislature are common, Friday’s fight was widely shared on social media showing a demonstration of legislative fighting. The member seen in the video performing the quick act was not identified. Lawmakers climbed over the benches amid the process of a newly elected leader to takeover as the President is underway.
