Coco Gauff is ready to settle the score at the French Open, turning the tables on all her clay court defeats. The 20-year-old American reached the advanced rounds in both Madrid and Rome, but Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys ended her impressive campaigns there. She recently issued a warning, asking everyone to be on the lookout for what’s about to happen next.

The third-ranked tennis player recently shared a conversation with Baker Tilly, in which she talked about the athletic expectations around her and  US Open memories. Not only that, but while she faced heartbreak at the Italian Open in the semi-final round against the world number one, she emphasized the fact that she is ready for the upcoming challenges, and right the mistakes of the past at this year’s French Open.

She said, “Winning US Open as an American was like, crazy. Obviously had like 99.9 of the crowd with me and match point was such a big surprise, even though I was up like 40 love, and I kind of knew what was gonna happen. Just remember my mom’s saying like, oh my God, you did it.” 

While she won her first Grand Slam last year, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that she is looking out for her next one at the French Open. Further, she added, “Greatness is being your highest self and all ways of life, you know, your dreams should be limitless. I’m Coco Gauff and I won the US Open. Now what just watch me?”

In contrast, their prior meetings have been one-sided, with Iga Swiatek dominating Coco Gauff in the head-to-head score by a large 10-1 margin. The world number one player maintained her supremacy and triumphed over the 20-year-old tennis sensation in their most recent Italian Open semifinal match.

Amidst keeping pace with everything, the young American tennis star recently admitted that she might have forgotten how her Roland Garros dress looks because she is so busy with her everyday regimen. She acknowledged that she occasionally gets confused by different tennis costumes and that she was unable to instantly identify the color of her 2024 French Open outfit.

She stated, “I low-key forgot what my Roland Garros outfit looks like. It’s coming tomorrow, I think it’s grey. They showed me a lot of sketches… I know what stuff looks like 3-4 years from now and I get them mixed up.”

Even though she was disappointed with her own performance at the Italian Open semifinal, she opened up about the one player she would like to beat in her French Open run to claim her second Grand Slam title.

Coco Gauff on the lookout for Iga Swiatek – ‘she’s the one to beat’

After facing defeat at the hands of the Polish tennis player who ended Gauff’s Italian Open campaign, it’s time for the French Open. In one of the recent conversations, she revealed that the four-time Grand Slam champion is the one to beat to have any hope of lifting the French Open trophy.

She said, “I think going into Roland Garros, like if you asked me pre-tournament [vs.] now, I feel like I’m a different player in terms of just how I’ve been playing. Going into it, I know she’s the one to beat if I want to win Roland Garros. I’m going to take what I learned from today and try to apply that next time we play, which I hope is at Roland Garros.”

If the American had left Rome ranked second, she might have met Swiatek in the Paris draw. She will still be rated third, though, meaning that if they are paired together, she may face Swiatek in the semifinals.
