Former Mitty basketball star Drew Gordon dies in car crash
Former Archbishop Mitty basketball standout Drew Gordon died in a car crash in Portland, Oregon-area on Thursday.
Gordon, the older brother of Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon, was 33 years old.
The San Jose native led Mitty to three West Catholic Athletic League championships and was the Mercury News player of the year in 2007.
He graduated in 2008 as a McDonald’s All-American.
Gordon went on to play at UCLA and then New Mexico before starting his professional basketball career.
He went undrafted by the NBA in 2012.
Except for nine games with the 2014-15 Philadelphia 76ers, Gordon spent his entire career playing in Europe and the G League.
He retired in 2023.
The Nuggets posted on X/Twitter Thursday night that the “organization is devastated to learn about the passing of Drew Gordon. Drew was far too young to leave this world, but his legacy will forever live on through his three beautiful children and all of his loved ones.
“Our hearts are with Aaron and the Gordon family during this extremely difficult time.”
In 2022, Gordon was playing in the Ukrainian Basketball Super League when Russian forces invaded the country.
After the invasion, he posted on X/Twitter, “What’s good everyone!!! Me and the family are home safe and sound!! Thank you for the well wishes and the concern! I hope and pray for the Ukraine to be ok. Loved playing there and hope things calm down.”
Gordon is survived by his wife, Angela, and three children.
