The Providence Stadium in Guyana is the semifinal venue for India’s clash with England at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. West Indies are co-hosting the T20 world event, along with the USA,
The venue in Guyana was built in 2006 for the then-upcoming ODI World Cup 2007. Over the years, the Providence Stadium has gained its prominence in the Caribbean island, and is now regarded as the ‘National Stadium’ of Guyana.
The venue has a seating capacity of 20,000 and hosted five group-stage games, as well as the semifinal match.
Both teams secured qualification for this matchup after finishing top two in their respective Super 8 groups. Team India were toppers of Group 1, while England finished second in Group 2.

The Providence Stadium has hosted 18 T20I matches so far.
The team batting first has won seven times while the chasing side has won on eight occasions. Three matches have been adjudged as ‘No Result’.
The stadium is historically not known as a high-scoring venue. The average first-innings score at the Providence Stadium, is as low as 128. The pitch in Guyana has favored the bowlers in the past, with balls slowing down as the game goes on.
Spinners have dominated at this venue, and the pacers get some help early on in the game. The spin-friendly nature of the pitch is what makes it a low-scoring venue. However, with the trends changing in T20 cricket, you never know how the surface would play out in the T20 World Cup.

The last T20I match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, was played between the West Indies and Uganda during the T20 World Cup 2024 group stages.
The hosts West Indies posted a total of 173 runs on board, after Johnson Charles’ 44 runs and Andre Russell’s late flourish of 30 runs. However, the target was too much for Uganda as they managed to score just 39 runs before being bowled out, thanks to a five-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein.

England hold the record for the highest team score on the ground as they put up 191/5 on the board against West Indies (WI) in 2010.
Eoin Morgan came up with the goods, with a 55-run knock in just 35 balls. All-rounder Luke Wright also scored 45 runs off 27 deliveries.
However, those efforts went in vain, as the hosts won the rain-affected match, by D/L method.
Ireland were stifled to just 68 on April 30, 2010, after a stellar bowling display by the West Indies. Defending 138, the WI pacers were up to the task, picking nine of the 10 wickets.
Ravi Rampaul and Daren Sammy picked three wickets each, while Dwayne Bravo bagged two to his name. Ace speedster Kemar Roach and spinner Nikita Miller also had a wicket to their names.
The average first innings score at the stadium is 152.
Mahela Jayawardena owns the record of the highest-ever individual score in a T20I match at the venue. The Sri Lankan veteran scored 100 off 64 deliveries against Zimbabwe at the 2010 T20 World Cup. He smacked 10 boundaries and four sixes to reach his deserving century.
Fazalhaq Farooqi’s 5 for 9 against Uganda in T20 World Cup 2024 are the best bowling figures at this stadium. The Afghan speedster cut through the Uganda batting unit in the powerplay.
Similarly, Akeal Hosein also recorded figures of 5 for 11 against Uganda during the T20 World Cup 2024.

West Indies hard-hitter Nicholas Pooran leads the charts of most runs at the venue, with 289 runs. The southpaw has a high score of 74* in six T20Is at the Providence Stadium.
Following him are Mahela Jayawardena, (181), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (156), Ibrahim Zadran (114), and Rovman Powell (136).
Fazalhaq Farooqi has taken the most number of wickets in T20Is at Providence Stadium, with whopping nine scalps in just two games. He has best figures of 5/9, at the T20 World Cup 2024. He also picked four wickets in his second outing, making it nine-in-two.
The next highest wicket-takers at the venue, are West Indies stars Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph with 8 wickets each.
