July has arrived, signaling the final month before the 2024 football season kicks off. The anticipation has intensified with the Walter Camp Football Foundation announcing its preseason All-America teams. This year, three standout Georgia Bulldogs—Carson Beck, Tate Ratledge, and Malaki Starks—have been named to the 2024 Walter Camp Preseason All-America Team, highlighting their elite talent and setting high expectations for the season.
Beck cemented his status as one of college football’s elite. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior quarterback from Jacksonville, Fla., started all 14 games in his junior season, leading the Bulldogs to a 13-1 record and an Orange Bowl victory over Florida State.
Beck completed 302 of 417 passes for 3,941 yards and 24 touchdowns, setting a new program record with a 72.4% completion rate. Additionally, Beck rushed 60 times for 116 yards and four touchdowns.
His performance earned Beck a spot on the All-SEC Second Team, trailing only Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels of LSU. This year, both DraftKings and FanDuel list Beck as a favorite for the Heisman Trophy, and NFL scouts are considering the senior quarterback as a potential first-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Ratledge has been a cornerstone of Georgia’s offensive line and, like Beck, should be a senior leader on the team. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive lineman from Rome, Ga., started in 13 of 14 games last season, earning Second Team All-American honors from the Associated Press and First Team All-SEC recognition from both the AP and Coaches.
Ratledge’s strength, technique and consistency have been crucial in both pass protection and run blocking. As a preseason All-American, Ratledge will play a key role in ensuring the success of Georgia’s offensive strategy in the upcoming season.
Starks has been a defensive powerhouse for the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound junior defensive back from Jefferson, Ga., started all 14 games last season and was named a First Team All-American by numerous outlets, including AFCA, AP, CBS, ESPN, FWAA, Sports Illustrated, USA Todayand Walter Camp.
Starks recorded 52 tackles, seven pass breakups and three interceptions. The junior defensive back was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Award, Jim Thorpe Award, and a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award. Starks’ exceptional playmaking ability and leadership on defense have earned him a spot on the 2024 Walter Camp Preseason All-America Team.
With championship aspirations, the Bulldogs open the 2024 season against Clemson in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday, Aug. 31. The game will be televised live by ABC at noon ET. Georgia faces a challenging schedule, including road tests at Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss, along with a home game against Tennessee. All four opponents expect to rank in the top-20 in preseason rankings.
Georgia is coming off a 13-1 season in 2023, capped by a dominant 63-3 victory over Florida State in the Orange Bowl after narrowly missing out on the College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs were seeking a third straight National Championship — a feat unmatched since the 1930s — and remain favorites, according to Las Vegas oddsmakers, to win a third title in four seasons in 2024.
The recognition of Beck, Ratledge and Starks as preseason All-Americans highlights their talents and the overall strength of Georgia. As the Bulldogs prepare for the upcoming season, there is notable anticipation and excitement among fans and analysts. The leadership and performance of these three players will be essential to Georgia’s pursuit of another championship.
