There are gambling do’s… and then there are gambling Draken’ts.
Drake, the Canadian rap superstar, rolled the dice with a whopping $300,000 bet on Canada to beat Argentina in the Copa America semifinals. Despite his notorious “Drake Curse,” he’s big on betting big and, from the looks of it, on losing big, too.
This time, he bet big on his home team to pull off a shocker. It SO did. Canada’s been on a dream run, but Argentina, led by the legendary Lionel Messi, is a tough nut to crack. With odds stacked higher than a quarterback’s laundry pile, Drake placed a juicy bet against Argentina and it backfired like an 1800 jalopy.
At least, he acknowledged the brazenness of his wager. Drake’s Instagram post cheekily said, “This could get Messi,” and boy, did it ever! Argentina’s Messi and Julian Alvarez both found the back of the net, sinking Canada 2-0 and leaving Drake $300K poorer.
If you’ve followed Drake’s betting history, you know his support often spells doom for his chosen teams. Hence, the “Drake Curse” has now claimed yet another victim.
This means this latest loss is just the tip of the iceberg. Drake’s 2023 has been littered with failed bets, totaling nearly $2.5 million down the drain. From the Edmonton Oilers to the Dallas Mavericks, if Drake’s betting on it, you might want to look the other way.
Now, don’t get it twisted; Drake’s had his moments of glory. His Super Bowl bet on the Chiefs paid off handsomely, and he raked in $3.7 million from UFC bets on Molly McCann and Paddy Pimblett. Another lucky win was his $1.2 million haul from betting on the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, but the curse is still alive and kicking. These wins are few and far between compared to his losses for them to be of any consolation. Now you know… if Drake bets $300K, you know that team is doomed!
Drake’s betting antics are as unpredictable as a last-second Hail Mary and he sure keeps the sports world a-zoomin’. Will his luck turn around, or will the curse continue to follow him like a housebroken pup?
Grab your popcorn and follow the dude’s next moves. You might want to bet on them… in the exact opposite direction!
