Republican delegates from American Samoa, an unincorporated US territory in the Polynesia region of the South Pacific Ocean, nominated Donald Trump with all their nine votes at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Monday.
The delegates came in their traditional uniform and announced the nomination in their language. However, the unconventional nature of their attire and the language struck an odd note with many viewers watching the RNC on television. And reactions followed.
Here are some of the reactions:
“Watching American Samoa cast their delegates for Trump, looking a fool like Trump even knows who they are and won’t deport them too 😂,” one user said.
“Now Trump is going to make his appearance at his official and full nomination event for #47thPresident of the US and a shout out to American #Samoa,” another said.
“Did you all see the light in the eyes of representatives of American Samoa when casting their votes for Trump What a beautiful sight full of hope & faith in Trump. Did I miss #NJ??” said another.
“So far American Samoa is killing the fashion game at the @GOP convention,” another said.
Ahead of the convention, Donald Trump announced Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate for the November elections. Trump said Vance is best suited for the job, amidst speculations that Marco Rubio and Doug Burgam are the top choices for the job.
