United States President Joe Biden on Tuesday praised Vice President Kamala Harris and said that she “could be President”. His remarks came while addressing the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) convention. Kamala Harris is the first black and female vice president of the United States.
Referring to Harris, who is his running mate, the US President said, “Folks, I know what a black job is—it’s the vice president of the United States.” “ She’s not only a great vice president, she could be president of the United States,” he stated.
Harris is being seen as the best replacement for Biden if he decides to retire.
This comes amid the rising calls for Biden, 81, to step down from the race to the White House. The US President has been facing withering questions about his fitness for another term in office as some of his fellow Democrats on Capitol Hill and campaign donors fear that he will lose the presidential election to former President Donald Trump after a stumbling performance in the debate on June 27.
Biden, however, did not indicate plans to withdraw from the presidential race.
The US President opened his speech by mentioning the assassination attempt on Donald Trump that took place last week on Saturday and saying that he was “grateful” that the former President was safe after the shooting.

Biden also said that he wanted to renew efforts to impose a ban on the kind of semi-automatic rifle that shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks used. During his speech, he also assured the crowd that he had already made plans for the first 100 days of his second term, including signing voting rights legislation, “Come hell or high water.”
Meanwhile, the White House said that Biden has tested positive for Covid-19 and is experiencing “mild symptoms.”
