Cyclist Chloé Dygert has earned Team USA’s second medal of the Olympics with a bronze in the women’s time trials. Dygert battled through a slick, rainy day in Paris and overcame an early fall to earn the third-place spot with a time of 41:10.70.
Dygert was still getting treated on her left leg, which was injured in the fall, before going up to the podium and accepting her bronze medal.
Australian Grace Brown won gold with an impressive time of 39:38.24 while Great Britain’s Anna Henderson took silver with 41:09.83.
Several cyclists fell during Saturday’s race, with the slick Parisian paving stones being the worst offenders for the competitors.
American triathlete Taylor Knibb, who also qualified for two cycling events, fell three times before finishing 19th with a time of 43:03.46. Knibb’s ride was a tough one — even her mechanic, when trying to give her a new bike, had a crash of his own.
Knibb, a rare dual-sport Olympic athlete, will compete in the women’s individual triathlon on July 31.
Three road cycling races remain, with the men’s time trials also on Saturday. The men will then have their road race on Aug. 3, with the women’s road race on Aug. 4.
