Team USA rugby sevens star Ilona Maher welcomed Kelce’s presence at the women’s rugby sevens tournament, saying, “Hopefully, he can see that rugby sevens is not so different to football and he can bring a bit of attention to it in America.”
He and his brother Travis Kelce have certainly brought a lot of attention to American football in the United States. They have a combined total of four Super Bowl victories between them, and even played against each other in the 2023 NFL Super Bowl when Jason’s Eagles took on Travis’s Kansas City Chiefs.
Kelce played down the possibility of Travis and his superstar girlfriend Taylor Swift attending Paris 2024, saying, “They are both very busy, so I doubt they will be able to make it. Travis is in the middle of training camp. And Taylor’s still, I mean, she’s still doing her thing, tour, and I think she’s in Munich right now. So they probably won’t be. No time.”
Still, Jason Kelce is embracing the full Olympic experience, buying a beret and cheering on Team USA.
“We’re in France, in Paris, and I love assimilating to different cultures and whatnot,” said the mountainous American. “I know this is about as stereotypical as you can get … I’ve already had a bunch of croissants and baguettes, too. I just didn’t carry them with me to the game.”
He explained his beret purchase further, saying, “I’m definitely taking in the full experience. And it was raining, I needed something to cover my head. I bought it at a souvenir shop.”
There’s no word on whether he’s met, bought, or worn a Phyrge, but there’s still plenty of time with 14 more days of sport to go at Paris 2024.
