A little bit of New York City is coming to Highland Park Village this fall.
New York-based upscale fashion brand KHAITE is opening its third U.S. storefront at the North Dallas shopping complex. The addition comes as Highland Park Village has announced the arrival of other brands to its flagship outdoor shopping location and the more than $100 million renovation of a plaza its management bought in Kansas City.
KHAITE’s brand focuses on womenswear that emphasizes the contrast between opposing elements like “masculine and feminine” or “strength and softness,” per the brand’s website, and the brand name takes its name from the Greek word for “long, flowing hair.” A staple long, black dress retails for $1,980 and a white button-down top retails for $474.
Celebrities who’ve worn KHAITE pieces include Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber, among others.
The KHAITE space, which sits at just more than 1,700 square feet, neighbors the complex’s Chanel store adjacent to Preston Road, as well as a shop labeled as “coming soon” on the Highland Park Village site. KHAITE already has two New York locations and a location in Seoul, South Korea, according to the brand’s website.
KHAITE representatives did not respond to several requests for comment.
Dallas’ growing population has made the city an important fashion market, Highland Park Village co-owner Stephen Summers previously told The Dallas Morning News. And while the shopping center isn’t looking to push away existing brands, “businesses change,” Summers said, and brands that were once successful might not stay successful.
“It’s a constant evolution, and we’re always trying to improve the tenant mix of the village,” Summers said.
Highland Park Village representatives confirmed in June that French fashion upscale brand Chloé will open its doors in the shopping complex, also in fall. Last year, Highland Park Village added four new shops to its lineup, including French-Italian Moncler and Simkhai, designer Jonathan Simkhai’s namesake brand.
The Village’s ownership is looking to grow its portfolio of luxury retail, too. Before the Kansas City announcement, Village ownership invested in a Charlotte, N.C., upscale shopping center in 2022 and bought a property in Aspen, Colo. in 2018, according to reporting by The Aspen Times. Summers said that the Village management’s relationship with retailers has helped the brand expand its footprint.
“They like us as landlords — we’re very friendly landlords — and so we talk to the brands, find out markets that they are not in, that they’d like to be in, and then we go try and find a real estate solution for them,” he said.
