American tennis sensation Taylor Fritz is gearing up for a pivotal quarterfinal clash against the formidable Alexander Zverev at the US Open. As the 26-year-old prepares to take on the German powerhouse, his meticulous attention to detail extends beyond the court. While the correlation between cuisine and athletic performance may be debated, Fritz’s dietary habits undoubtedly play a role in his quest for victory. The details might surprise you.!
Taylor Fritz, the world’s number five tennis player, thinks that his recent good fortunes were based on discipline and a good dieting plan. The 25-year-old has lit up the US Open, advancing to the quarterfinals for the second year in a row with a win over Casper Ruud in four sets in the previous round. Fritz believes in the word consistency both on and off the court.
He sticks to a disciplined routine every day that begins with a glass of water—ice-cold—the moment he wakes up. “I read that having extremely cold water in the morning speeds up your metabolism for the day. I am not sure if it is true, but it can’t hurt, right?” said Fritz. A very simple routine, and his day is directed in a manner that keeps him focused.

For his nutrition, Fritz maintains a high-protein diet that coincides with his demanding training and match schedule. “I’m a creature of habit,” he said, highlighting how his routine helps get rid of distractions and maintain mental clarity. He relies on steak and chicken paired with rice or pasta to replenish the massive 4,000 calories he burns in a match, mainly during tournaments.
“During tournaments, I eat a lot of steak in the evenings and before matches, or I go with white rice and plain chicken—no sauces or seasoning added,” said Fritz. This means his meals are pretty simple. The major focus lies around balance and eating enough food to give him energy. “My overall focus when planning what I eat in the day is balance and making sure that I eat enough to match the amount of energy I am burning,” he added.
However, Fritz allows himself some indulgence once the competition ends. He takes a few cheat days to savor comfort-food meals like burgers and fries after playing a tournament because of his very strict diet. “After a tournament, I think it’s important for me to relax a bit and allow myself to eat things I wouldn’t typically eat while training or before a match,” Fritz admitted. He believes that this flexibility helps keep him motivated during the rigorous periods of training and competition.
“I think it gives me that flexibility to motivate myself during those times that are really important for me to stick to my diet,” he said. It is evident that Fritz’s disciplined approach to routine and diet involves the need for balance, consistency, and just the occasional indulgence in order to reach peak performance. As he continues to follow the same strategy during the US Open, it is highly likely that he will achieve significant results.

Taylor Fritz, known for being pretty disciplined on the tennis court, is much more relaxed in his approach to food. During his Indian Wells campaign earlier this year, Fritz spoke on the Tennis Channel about his diet. America’s top-ranked ATP star said that he is very picky about his food and values enjoying his meals.
“I mean, look, I’m a really picky eater. I think like just being happy, eating things that like taste good, that you like, it’s really important,” Fritz said. He detailed that he has tried following strict meal plans in the past, but they often left him frustrated. “I’ve done meal plans and stuff like that and it just after a while it really gets to me,” he confessed.
He also talked about his love for the popular fast-food chain Chipotle and how he incorporates that into his diet. He shared that although most people make bad choices by just filling their bowls with cheese; he keeps his order quite simple and healthy.

“You can be unhealthy with your bowl if you want to get like a ton of cheese on it, but you can also just go in and get chicken, rice, vegetables, and guacamole and that’s a great meal after you’ve just worked out,” Fritz explained.
To him, a balanced bowl is an excellent post-training meal with everything the body needs after intense physical exercise. Only time will tell if his consistent diet will help him pull another history-making victory. Not to mention, the entire New York City is rooting for Fritz.
