Georgia women’s tennis secured two singles wins across the ITA All-American Championships and W75 Tournaments. These wins come after the Bulldogs brought home two singles titles at the Battle in the Bay Classic and Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic.
In California, junior Anastasiia Lopata secured her highest-ranked victory against WTA No. 275 Carson Branstine. Lopata had two strong consecutive sets, and dominated Branstine 6-1, 6-1 in round one. Lopata will advance to round two to face Rebecca Marino.
In Cary, North Carolina, No. 75 Guillermina Grant started off the ITA All-American Championships round of 64 strong. Against Zoe Hammond from Kentucky, Grant secured the Bulldogs’ only win on the first day of the tournament. Grant won her match 6-3, 6-4 in consecutive sets. Grant advances to the round of 32 to face Berta Passola Folch from California.
No. 94 Aysegul Mert faced No. 118 Chloe Noel from Oklahoma in the round of 64. Noel pulled ahead in the first set, defeating Mert 6-4. Mert had a comeback in the second set 6-3, but fell short in the third set 6-1. She later continued to the consolation bracket, where she defeated Nikola Homolkova from Hawaii.
Sofia Rojas faced No. 64 Alexis Blokhina from Stanford. Rojas lost the first set to Blokhina 6-4, but fought hard in a comeback bid to win the second set. However, Rojas was not able to complete the comeback and lost the second set 7-5. She continued to the consolation bracket to face Yujia Huang from BYU.
Lopata and Grant advanced in their respective main draws, while Mert and Rojas continued onto round 32 in the consolation bracket.
