American tourists have revealed the thing that baffles them most about the UK – English food.
Adam and Steph, from Boston, Massachusetts, spoke to Express.co.uk about their trip to the UK while they were visiting the Cotswolds.
Asked if there is anything that surprised them about the UK, Steph joked: “We have been to Britain quite a few times. I have been pondering the toast. Why is there so much toast everywhere?”
The couple travelled throughout the Cotswolds this summer and said they love the countryside and walking routes.
Speaking in Chipping Campden, Adam said: “It is lovely here, and excellent mud! We love the rain!”
“For us the walking is great, and the towns are quite beautiful. We both enjoy getting out in the countryside and dodging the sheep poop.”
The Cotswolds have experienced a tourism boom in recent years, seeing an increase in both domestic and international visitors.
But some locals in the Cotswolds have lamented the increased footfall due to congestion and the rise of Airbnbs and second homes.
Adam says he understands the concerns of locals, but adds that tourists can boost these communities.
He continued: “Tourism makes it a bit more of a varied economy, we support the shops and the restaurants here. It is a complex topic, but I think tourism plays a role in keeping these communities more vibrant.”
Steph added: “One of the reasons we like to walk in the countryside is because we don’t like tourist intense areas.”
