It marks the end of an American era, that of an open superpower committed to the world, eager to set itself up as a democratic model.” Trump put a “nail in the coffin” of Ronald Reagan‘s model of the U.S. as a “shining city on a hill,” it added, citing Trump’s stated intention to end military aid to Ukraine and to negotiate a peace deal that’s more favorable to Russia.
