WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest men’s basketball senior guard
Hunter Sallis has been named to the All-America Third Team by The Sporting News, announced Monday by the organization.
Sallis and the Deacs are coming off a 3-0 start to the season in the first week of play, defeating Coppin State and North Carolina A&T at home and downing the Michigan Wolverines Sunday afternoon in Greensboro.
The Sporting News is the fifth outlet to award Sallis preseason nods. Most recently he was named to the
Naismith Trophy Jersey Mike’s Player of the Year Watch List and the NABC Player of the Year Watch List. The Omaha native also earned
All-ACC First Team honors by the Atlantic Coast Conference and was named to the
Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Top 20 Preseason Watch List.
So far for the 2024-25 season, Sallis leads Wake Forest with 14.0 points per game in 33.3 minutes per game. Sallis finished the 2023-24 season earning All-ACC First Team honors after a breakout year in the league, being named the Associated Press ACC Newcomer of the Year. That marked the first time since 2003, 2004 and 2005 that Wake Forest had a First Team honoree for three-straight years. Sallis, Tyree Appleby and Alondes Williams joined the likes of Josh Howard (’03), Justin Gray (’04) and Chris Paul (’05).
The then-junior led the team in scoring with 18.0 points per game while shooting 48.7 percent from the field, 40.5 percent from behind the arc and 78.3 percent from the line, scoring double digits in points in all but one of his 34 games in a Wake Forest uniform. Sallis was the second-leading scorer in the ACC during league play, sporting an average of 18.5 points per conference contest.
Wake Forest is back at home this week with a midweek matchup Wednesday, Nov. 13 against USC Upstate inside The Joel Coliseum. Tip is set for 7 p.m. and the game will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
Tickets for the matchup are starting at just $15 and
