NEW ULM – The Willkommen Committee recently visited the American Legion to celebrate their new general manager, Nancy Grohnert.
Grohnert grew up in the Buffalo Lake/Steward area. She went to college for law enforcement before starting a family. After her husband died, Grohnert bought a restaurant in Buffalo Lake on Highway 212. When she remarried, she sold the restaurant and they relocated to Utah. After also spending some time in Florida, she moved back home to Minnesota and owned a cafe in Fairfax for a time. Grohnert moved to the area and started her job at the Legion in June where she enjoys the “great sense of camaraderie between the members.”
Grohnert is in charge of ordering, running the bar, and planning events like weddings, receptions, reunions, funerals and others. The American Legion now has food from 5-7pm every night with a rotating calendar of specials. They have bingo on Thursday nights, and they do Made Rights on the second Saturday every month from September through May. The American Legion has rooms available to rent for events, one of which has just recently been remodeled. They’ve also recently added credit card capabilities.
Located at 13 S. Minnesota St, New Ulm, the American Legion has a website at www.nuamericanlegion.com, or called at (507) 354-4016.
