CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Football wide receiver Cooper Barkate has been named a 2024 All-American for the third straight day, collecting second-team honors from Phil Steele, the publication announced today. The junior captured honorable mention accolades from the Associated Press on Tuesday and third-team recognition from Stats Perform on Wednesday.
Barkate’s Stats Perform All-America honor is the fifth in program history and the first for an offensive player. Justice Shelton-Mosley ’19 was the first Crimson player to receive All-America honors from the outlet, earning recognition as a punt returner in 2017. Defensive lineman Thor Griffith ’24 was a third- and fourth-team pick in 2022 and 2023, respectively, with Truman Jones ’23 (DL) joining him on the 2022 third team.
Barkate was also one of an Ivy League-best 20 all-conference selections by Phil Steele. Harvard had eight first-teamers, which was tied with Dartmouth for most in the league, and included Barkate, Mike Entwistle (OL), Austin Gentle (OL), Jacob Psyk (DL), Mitchell Gonser (LB), Ty Bartrum (DB), Scott Woods II (PR) and Charles DePrima (AP).
Quarterback Jaden Craig and defensive back Damien Henderson landed on the All-Ivy Second Team, while Xaviah Bascon (RB), Woods II (WR), Seamus Gilmartin (TE) and Tyler Huenemann (DL) were third-team performers. The Phil Steele All-Ivy Fourth Team included DePrima (RB), Brandon Svets (DL), Eric Little (LB), Gavin Shipman (DB), Sebastien Tasko (P) and Bascon (KR).
Harvard finished the 2024 campaign with an 8-2 record (5-2 Ivy) and was the first team to clinch at least a share of the conference title before Dartmouth and Columbia earned a piece of the crown. The Crimson, which posted an 8-win campaign for the third time in the last four years, ended the regular season ranked No. 25 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll after rising to as high as No. 17. Harvard now has 19 Ivy League titles to its credit after winning back-to-back championships.
