‘Big Red’ makes big bucks.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is renowned for being a genius football mind who has won three Super Bowls in Kansas City’s hot-seat.
The Chiefs are the reigning back-to-back champions, and are one win away from an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat.
Kansas City are into their fifth Super Bowl of the Andy Reid era after beating the Buffalo Bills in last weekend’s AFC Championship game.
They faced the Philadelphia Eagles in next month’s big game — a rematch of Super Bowl LVII following the 2022 season — after the Eagles blew-out the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game.
Reid is one the precipice of history once again, more than repaying the Chiefs who rewarded him with a bumper five-year contract extension worth around $100 million this offseason.
The new deal made the 66-year-old the highest-paid coach in the NFL and across all North American sports leagues in 2024 and 2025.
Reid tops the list of the ten highest-earning NFL coaches based on base pay without incentives.
His $20 million salary puts him way ahead of Super Bowl 59 rival Sirianni in terms of annual earnings.
Sirianni, now into his second Super Bowl as a head coach, signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the Eagles back in 2021.
He’s currently only the 11th-highest-paid coach in the NFL, earning approximately $7 million annually — $13 million a year less than Reid.
‘Big Red’ is ahead of a rather surprising name in second spot on the list of highest-earning NFL head coaches.
The Denver Broncos handed Sean Payton the keys to the organization when they tempted him out of retirement in January 2023, with an $18 million salary this year in average annual value (AAV) probably helping to smooth the deal.
Payton is one of four Super Bowl-winning head coaches that make up the top five highest-earning head coaches, proving that victory in the big game often leads to big paydays.
Pittsburgh Steelers ever-present Mike Tomlin is tied for third on the list with $16 million-per-season.
He is joined by Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, who might not have a Lombardi but signed a five-year deal with the Bolts after winning a NCAA national title with Michigan in 2024.
Los Angeles Rams offensive mastermind Sean McVay rounds out the top five with $15 million a year.
Money is rife in the National Football League.
Per Statista, the league generated a total of $20.24 billion in revenue across all 32 teams in 2023, the highest figure ever recorded, and an increase of almost $2 billion from the previous year.
The average NFL franchise is worth around $5.6 billion in 2024, with the $10 billion-value Dallas Cowboys sitting at the top of the mountain.
Players are among the biggest beneficiaries of this exorbitant wealth.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott‘s mega contract makes him the NFL’s highest earning player this season (and ever).
Jerry Jones rewarded the 31-year-old’s career-year last season with a $240 million extension over four years – that works out an average salary of $60 million a year.
Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals), Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars), and Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers) are all set to make a whopping $55 million this campaign — a three-way tie for second most among all players.
Fifth on the list is Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Tua was handed a four-year, $212.4 million contract extension with $167.1 million guaranteed this offseason — he will rake in $53.1 million in 2024-25 alone.
Sixth is Detroit Lions man Jared Goff, who is being paid $53 million in 2024-25.
MVP favorite Lamar Jackson is the eighth best-paid NFL player this season.
‘Action Jackson’ is being given $52 million a year despite annually coming unstuck in the playoffs.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, beaten in Super Bowl LVII by the Chiefs but now with a chance at redemption, is ninth with $51 million per year.
Arizona Cardinals dual-threat QB Kyler Murray is the tenth highest NFL earner this season with a $46.1 million salary.
1. Andy Reid (Kansas City Chiefs) – $20 million
2. Sean Payton (Denver Broncos) – $18 million
3. Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh Steelers) – $16 million
3. Jim Harbaugh (Los Angeles Chargers) – $16 million
5. Sean McVay (Los Angeles Rams) – $15 million
6. Kyle Shanahan (San Francisco 49ers) – $14 million
7. John Harbaugh (Baltimore Ravens) – $12 million
8. Dan Campbell (Detroit Lions) – $ 11 million
8. Sean McDermott (Buffalo Bills) – $11 million
