According to a new study by the American Gaming Association (AGA) on the eve of Responsible Gaming Education Month and the launch of NFL season, Americans are viewing the gambling industry as more responsible, embracing casino and sports betting as acceptable forms of entertainment.
Highlights from the study: 75% of Americans believe the gaming industry behaves responsibly in the communities where it operates. That’s especially true with the perception of the industry’s commitment to responsible gaming and dealing with problem gambling – 65% of American’s surveyed are satisfied with that, a rise from 55% last year. In 2018, that number was at less than 40%.
That number goes up further when talking to actual casino players – 81% – and sports bettors – 88%. That’s an increase from 70% and 78%, respectively, from last year.
More than half of American adults (55%) participated in some form of gambling in the past year. Nearly 88% of Americans find online casino gambling to be acceptable for themselves or others.
And more than 76% of Americans say that the gaming industry has a positive impact on the overall U.S. economy, with more than three quarters crediting it for contributions to local economies, job creation and tourism.
Kantar, on behalf of the AGA, conducted the online survey of 2,000 people over the age of 21 July 31-Aug. 9 on the topic of responsible gaming and industry perceptions.
“These latest survey results highlight a consistent trend over the years: as gaming expands to new audiences, Americans increasingly see the benefits of a legal, regulated gaming marketplace that contributes to communities, prioritizes responsibility and provides unmatched entertainment,” said Joe Maloney, AGA Senior Vice President, Strategic Communications.
