American Airlines will offer a business-class product called Flagship Suite Preferred on new and retrofitted Boeing 787-9 and retrofitted Boeing 777-300 aircraft.
“The seat will offer customers expansive space, several storage areas and exclusive amenities,” the carrier said. The carrier did not set a Flagship Suite Preferred launch date.
Flagship Suite Preferred will augment American’s previously announced plan to introduce a new Flagship Suite business class seat as well as new premium economy seats on Boeing 777s and 787s as well as Airbus A321XLRs.
On Boeing 787s and Airbus A321XLRs, the interiors will debut on new deliveries. American will retrofit its 20 Boeing 777-300s; those retrofits will include eliminating the eight-seat first-class cabins.
Flagship Suite Preferred will occupy the first row of the retrofitted Boeing 777s and new 787s, with standard Flagship Suites taking up the remainder of the cabin.
All of the new suites will feature a sliding door, a chaise lounge seating option and more personal storage space than existing American business-class products.
When American announced the Flagship Suite plan in late 2022, the airline expected to have the product in the air this year, but manufacturing and supply chain difficulties have delayed deliveries.
