With fall fast approaching, some of us are already missing the lazy days of summer.  

And what is the best thing to do to get over the post-summer blues?

Look ahead and book a spring/summer vacation for next year!  

America’s major airlines are looking ahead, too, by confirming their new schedules and flight routes for 2025.  

And the good news is that there’ll be even more options available to you, as American Airlines is launching new nonstop routes to these 5 European destinations.  

Edinburgh, Scotland 

For the first time since 2019, American Airlines will offer nonstop flights to Edinburgh.

This route will depart from Philadelphia, acting as a North American hub for travel to Scotland.  

This will be a daily service, and it will begin on May 23.  

Edinburgh is an incredible city with a rich history, and it is best visited during the spring and summer months.  

Edinburgh is a wonderfully compact and walkable city located in the heart of Scotland. It is famous for its imposing castle, which you can visit for just £15.50 ($20) per person.  

Walk along the Royal Mile to explore Edinburgh’s most fascinating architecture and be at one with nature, as you’re just a stone’s throw away from Scotland’s spectacular mountains, rivers, and lochs.  

Visit in August, and you can also enjoy the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which will next take place August 1-25, 2025.

Athens, Greece 

Greece has had a record-breaking summer this year, and that looks set to continue into 2025 too.

To meet demand, American Airlines is launching a daily nonstop flight from Charlotte, North Carolina to Athens.  

This daily service will launch on June 5.  

Athens is the gateway to Greece. This is where most American travelers land if they want to explore wider Greece and its breathtaking islands.  

But Athens itself shouldn’t be overlooked. This is a city where history takes center stage.

Visit the Acropolis Museum, marvel at the columns of the Parthenon temple, and then wander the winding streets of Plaka.  

Visit in spring/summer and you’ll find a whole host of sandy and picturesque beaches that you can enjoy here.

The beaches of Athens are often crowded and underrated compared to their smaller island neighbors, but they are still well worth exploring.  

Madrid, Spain 

In another first, American Airlines will connect Chicago to Madrid.

With the addition of this new route, American Airlines now offers the most service to Spain of any U.S. airline, which is pretty impressive.  

This will be a daily nonstop service starting from March 30.  

So why should you choose Madrid? I love this Spanish city thanks to its elegant boulevards and abundance of museums and galleries.  

If you have even a passing interest in art, then the Prado museum shouldn’t be missed.

You can see works by Goya, Bosch, and Diego Velázquez. Tickets cost 15 euros ($16.60) per person.  

The Royal Palace of Madrid is also a huge and spectacular building that is well worth exploring.

This is the largest palace in Western Europe and is still the official residence of the Spanish Royal family.

Milan, Italy 

If you’ve got your mind set on an Italian summer, then from May 23, you can fly nonstop to Milan from Philadelphia.

This will also be a daily service.  

Milan is located in Northern Italy and is home to two particularly significant cultural attractions.  

The Duomo di Milano Goth cathedral and the Santa Maria delle Grazie convent.

Why should a convent be on your list of things to do? Because it’s home to Leonardo da Vinci’s mural “The Last Supper.” 

Milan is also close to the spectacularly beautiful Lake Como, meaning this is a great jumping off point for a tour of wider northern Italy.  

Rome, Italy 

Finally, continuing our Italian theme, Floridians can fly from Miami to Rome.

This is the latest route on the list, with a daily service that won’t launch until July 5.  

Rome is considered Italy’s historic heart, and it’s almost fair to say it needs no explanation! But of course, I’m going to give it one anyway.  

It doesn’t matter whether you spend 2 days or 2 weeks in Rome: you still won’t feel like you’ve seen it all.

This is a sprawling city with a frankly epic roster of sites to see, including The Colosseum, Palatine Hill, St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican Museums, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps.  

When you visit Rome you can also visit Vatican City, ticking 2 bucket list items off your list in one trip.

Although Rome is crowded due to its overwhelming popularity with travelers, it’s still a city everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.
