American Airlines has announced plans to add 500 new maintenance jobs and grow its heavy maintenance operation bases in Charlotte, Pittsburgh, and Tulsa.
In a press release published on September 9, 2024, the carrier said the added headcount will allow the airline to perform additional heavy maintenance check work at these locations.
“American is excited to grow the Technical Operations workforce with more aviation maintenance positions,” said Greg Emerson, American’s Vice President of Base Maintenance and Facilities. “It’s an opportunity to grow our maintenance capacity and capabilities in the near-term and preserve them over the long run by continuing to build our pipeline of future maintenance team members.”
The Charlotte location will have 133 new job openings, including 122 for aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs). Pittsburgh will see 44 openings, including 40 for AMTs, while Tulsa will have 321 openings, 227 of which will be for AMTs.
The announcement follows the addition of more than 300 positions at American’s Tech Ops maintenance base in Tulsa, following a $22 million grant from Oklahoma’s Business Development Incentive Program for 2023.
“We’re very grateful to the State of Oklahoma Department of Commerce for this grant,” Emerson added. “As a direct result of this funding in 2023, we’ve already added hundreds of high-paying, skilled new jobs to the Tulsa economy and continue to make enhancements to our world-class maintenance facility.”
