Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has secured a new cargo handling contract with American Airlines in Copenhagen to support the launch of daily Boeing 787 flights between Denmark and Philadelphia.
WFS will support the new contract with continued investments in its cargo and premium products handling infrastructure at Copenhagen Airport.
At the end of 2022, WFS opened its third new cargo terminal at the airport, adding an additional 3,700 sqm of capacity.
Copenhagen is one of over 25 global airports in WFS’ network with a dedicated GDP-certified pharmaceutical handling facility to support customers in the pharma and life sciences sectors in Medicon Valley in Greater Copenhagen.
Paul Allen, regional manager, cargo operations – EMEA at American Airlines, said: “Across Europe, we receive good service from WFS and, having spent time with many WFS employees over the years, it’s clear that Copenhagen is held in high regard.
“We have a good working relationship with WFS at all levels and with the Copenhagen area known for pharma traffic, we hope and expect to be able to tap into that market.”
In addition to direct flights from Copenhagen, American Airlines’ customers in Sweden will now benefit from faster cargo connections with the US.
Marc Claesen, senior vice president of commercial EMEAA at WFS, said: “This contract has been earned by our investments in modern terminal facilities and our ability to handle premium pharma cargoes as well as WFS’ strong understanding of the airline’s high service requirements.”
WFS now handles approximately 100,000 tonnes annually in Copenhagen for more than 20 online airline customers and over 150 offline carriers.
In Europe, WFS already handles American Airlines’ growing cargo volumes in France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK.
