Travel to the US seems to be in high demand, as British Airways revealed a huge influx in flights to America at 15,200 flights (42 per day) based on the latest figures, and they plan to increase this further to 16,000 flights (44 per day) in 2025.
From the city that never sleeps to the Hollywood Hills, millions of people flock to the US each year in the hopes of witnessing the much talked about American dream.
Travel specialists at Journeyscape had other plans as they delved into the ultimate hidden gems and best-kept secret spots for those wanting to visit the country and experience a more unique American adventure.
Using Tripadvisor reviews and Google Keyword Planner, Journeyscape gathered data to pinpoint the most-loved, low-key cities across the US with exciting attractions.
Coming in with high results was Franklin, Tennessee, a large city just outside of the popular tourist destination, Nashville. The state is incredibly famous for its contributions to the music scene, birthing many singer-songwriters, hosting performances at the iconic Grand Ole Opry, and being home to Graceland, Elvis Presley’s former home.
However, according to research conducted by Journeyscape, Franklin has the most hidden attractions at 4.83% with 207 attractions. This includes the charming Leiper’s Fork Whisky Distillery, producing just 25,000 gallons of liquor yearly, and it is a big hit with tourists on Tripadvisor.
One satisfied tourist from Atlanta shared on TripAdvisor: “We were in town for a big reunion and stopped by because we were in the area. That was such good fortune. This place is a wonderful attraction. The tour was great and very entertaining. The entire setting is very serene. It was wonderful to relax and enjoy the ambiance.”
Not only this, but the city is home to the Lotz House Museum, a building significant during the American Civil War, known as the epicentre of the Battle of Franklin.
Sitting alongside these spots were many other hidden gems across Tennessee, including Little Congress Bicycle Museum, Cumberland Gap, and The Lost Sea.
Journeysafe describes the bicycle museum as being made for “lovers of all things quirky,” with its impressive collection of unique bicycles, teaching visitors about the range of styles, engineering, and the American way of life, thanks to R. E. McClanahan II, who built the collection over 41 years.
Little Congress Bicycle Museum has been open since 2003 and yet only received 760 Google searches last year, proving itself as a hidden gem.
The Lost Sea in Tennessee is described as being “America’s Largest Underground Lake” in the Guinness Book of World Records and is an unmissable attraction for tourists visiting the South. Found in Craighead Caverns, the lake allows visitors to marvel at its rare rock formations, sloping pathways, and immense cavern rooms.
