American Express has ‘aced’ its latest credit card sign up bonus for new Platinum members, offering the standard 40,000 reward points (worth £200), as well as £400 in travel credit which can be redeemed on flights, hotels and car hire.
As part of its latest offer which is available until Tuesday 27 August, Amex is also giving newbies the chance to win one of fifty pairs of centre court or court one tickets to the 2025 Wimbledon championships via a prize draw.
But to get all the offers, you need to sign up and spend £6,000 in the first three months of Platinum membership. Plus, do note that the Platinum credit card comes with a hefty £650 annual fee and an APR of 704.6%.
As part of your Platinum membership, you’ll enjoy a number of travel and lifestyle benefits, including complimentary room upgrades and late check outs, global lounge access, as well as lower fares in first, business and premium economy with the International Airline Program.
Once accepted and you’ve met the criteria, new cardmembers will receive the £400 in travel credit to spend with Amex Travel Online. This can be used on flights, bookings at over 1,500 hotels around the world, or with renting a car while on holiday. The deal could also land you two return flights from London to either Rome (£334.18), Istanbul (£374.78) or Marrakech (£372.96).
Meanwhile the standard 40,000 Membership Rewards points can be used on flights or hotels with Amex Travel or redeemed for £200 worth of gift vouchers which can be redeemed with shopping, travel and lifestyle partners.
Amex previously ran a Gold Card Members bonus offer at the end of May.
According to Rob Burgess of frequent flyer website Head for Points, new sign ups are getting a bonus worth around £800.
He said: “The card comes with some great travel benefits. Even in normal times, American Express Platinum offers the biggest sign-up bonus of any UK personal travel card.
“Until 27 August, The Platinum Card blows every other personal card out of the water with the usual 40,000 Membership Rewards points sign-up bonus AND a £400 credit to spend with Amex Travel. This is as good as its gets, I think”.
Dave Edwards, vice president of American Express, said: “We know travel is an important part of our cardmembers’ summer plans, who are eager to explore new destinations, cultures and experiences.
“This latest Platinum Card limited-time offer allows new cardmembers to earn £400 travel credit, that could go towards their next overseas adventure.”
“Many would say that is priceless”, Edwards added.
