Andre Agassi has always been a trendsetter. Whether it’s hitting beautiful backhands or rocking the most bizarre outfits, he’s always making a statement. In a world full of stringent dress codes, he showed up and shook everyone with his flashy outfits, a crazy bright red mohawk, and ruby-painted nails. Nobody can forget how he stunned everyone at Wimbledon when he brought a little colour to the otherwise white scene. He wore a blonde mane, an oversized polo shirt, and yellow tinted glasses. And who can forget his iconic denim shorts? The American tennis player recently went down memory lane as his daughter gave him a piece accessory last worn in 1995!
On March 1, Andre Agassi was seen back in action at the tennis court at the MGM Rewards Slam. He played alongside World number 1 Aryna Sabalenka. They took on Naomi Osaka and Mardy Fish in an exciting doubles showdown. Agassi-Sabalenka won the match 10-8 in a one-round tie-break game. At the match, Agassi wore his iconic red bandana that he was seen rocking at the Australian Open in 1995. A replica of the same bandana was gifted to him by his daughter Jaz for the exhibition match. She was also there, cheering him on from the stands. He took to his Instagram Story and wrote, “What a fun day playing in my hometown of Vegas yesterday. Can’t believe my daughter @jazagassi found me the exact red bandana I wore back in 1995, so I had to bring it back. An awesome way to celebrate the here and now.”

His doubles partner, Aryna Sabalenka, was also coincidentally wearing a red dress, and this didn’t go unnoticed by her. She commented on the fashion choice and said, “I have to say, we’re much better like my outfit [matches] with his head (points at Agassi’s bandana)”
The American legend had reviewed some of his outfit choices last year, and this famous Australian Open outfit had also come up. Looking back on his fashion, he said, “Terrible. You love this? This was a little grunge, a little sloppy. My first bald Slam. There are so many, this is a ten.”
Andre Agassi had to face a lot of criticism for his fashion choices back in the day. What does he have to say about that now?

While some saw Andre Agassi’s style as a breath of fresh air, a section thought that the American icon was somehow tarnishing the sport. The 54-year-old has enjoyed an illustrious career with 8 Grand Slams, an Olympic Gold medal, and 101 weeks at the number 1 spot. However, despite these achievements, Agassi was not seen as a positive influence on tennis because of his flamboyant fashion.
In an interview with Vogue in 2024, Agassi revealed how his rebellious US Open look, where he donned his famous acid-washed jean shorts by Nike, was seen as him “destroying” the legacy of tennis. He revealed, “Oh my God. In 1988, I was called a punk—I was destroying the game of tennis. I mean, what they call destroying it I called broadening the tent—but whatever. I just was being me, and I was always honest about how I felt about the game,” Andre Agassi said.
Whatever others must have said, it certainly impressed his now wife and fellow tennis player Steffi Graf. “Andre was totally ahead of his time with the jorts. I loved them. I thought that was the coolest thing out there. I mean, you know, I loved fashion and seeing boundaries pushed and something so innovative, I thought that was super cool,” Graf said.

Love it or hate it, Agassi’s fashion choices were always unapologetically his own. And decades later, they’re still making headlines—just like the legend himself.
