WATFORD CITY – Members of North Dakota’s American Legion Posts of the 6th and 9th District and their auxiliaries will gather in Watford City at the Legion Family Building, 313 12th St. SE, for their 2024 Fall District Meeting on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m., according to a news release from the district.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. and a meal will be served at noon. Training for post officers and members will follow the meeting.
District 6 Commander Heather Thompson of Bottineau Post 42 and District Commander Lance Renville of Watford City Post 29 will preside over the session. Department Commander Mamie Havelka of Bismarck Post 1 and other department officers will be in attendance.
The District Oratorical Contest chairman will report on the upcoming high school oratorical contest and the District Boys State chairman will give an update on the success of the American Legion North Dakota Boys State held this past June at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton.
The North Dakota Department of the American Legion encompasses nearly 12,000 Legionnaires, 6,000 auxiliary members and 1,000 Sons of the American Legion members throughout posts in 206 North Dakota communities. Chartered by Congress in 1919, the Legion serves as a patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans’ organization.
