The Czinger 21C isn’t just playing catch-up with the other hypercars in the world. This American made beast of a car is out here breaking records and taking names. The latest smackdown happened at Laguna Seca, where Czinger didn’t just set a new lap record – it obliterated the reigning king, Koenigsegg.
Move over, Koenigsegg Jesko Absolu t, because there’s a new lap-time sheriff in town, and it goes by Czinger 21C. After crushing the Goodwood Hillclimb with driver Chris Ward behind the wheel, and then reclaiming the Circuit of the Americas lap record from Hennessey, Czinger had set its sights on Laguna Seca. However, Koenigsegg thought it had the track on lockdown with a blistering 1:24.86. But Czinger rolled up, flipped its visor down, and clocked a jaw-dropping 1:24.75. That’s right, by just over a tenth of a second, the 21C left Koenigsegg eating its dust.
With an 11,000-rpm twin-turbo V8 and three electric motors pumping out 1,350 hp, this American hypercar goes from zero to “Holy crap!” in just 1.9 seconds flat. It is one of the fastest cars in the world after all.
“The track is the ultimate judge of who is best. It’s great to see an industry where companies, innovators, hypercars, supercar companies are all competing on level ground. That level ground is the track and Zinger is that American brand. We’ve grown from nothing to now being a technology leader, to having our car be the fastest production car in the world. And this day today is a representative of all of those years of work and all of those individuals efforts to achieve something extraordinary.”
Lukas Czinger, Founder, President & COO of Czinger Vehicles
But Czinger shouldn’t get too comfy, because this is just the first act of what’s shaping up to be the greatest drama on four wheels. Koenigsegg’s Jesko Absolut set that time on its first go; with a bit more practice, who knows how fast the Swede will get? And let’s not forget fellow American sport car makers Hennessey, still lurking in the shadows, ready to take another swing at any record in sight. Then there’s the Rimac Nevera R, the all-electric beast with a mind-bending 2,078 hp. It’s like the hypercar Hunger Games out here, and Czinger’s latest victory may just be a small chapter in an ongoing saga of speed, power, and relentless one-upmanship in the hypercar world.
Our sister website ‘CarBuzz’ spoke to Czinger Vehicles founder Kevin Czinger at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year, he told us the Californian hypercar manufacturer had several more circuits to conquer. He didn’t go into specifics about which tracks were at the top of the priority list but made it clear that European lap records are on the radar, with attempts to come sometime in 2025.
