Taylor Fritz is pushing his case to remain among the top players on the circuit after he defeated world No.2 Alexander Zverev to qualify for the ATP Finals title clash.
The 27-year-old followed his breakthrough US Open formula to defeat Zverev 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (3), becoming the first American since James Blake in 2006 to qualify for the final.
If he takes wins it all, he will be the first American male to win the event in 25 years.

The back-and-forth battle took just under two-and-a-half hours to be completed, with Fritz recording his fourth consecutive win over the German.

Ranked fifth on the ATP standings, a victory in Turin will be the biggest title achieved so far in his career.
“I have believed that I belong, that I’m one of the best players,” Fritz said post-match.
“I just told myself that I had to fight and be solid … this week is huge.
“It’s not results-based. It’s more I can feel how I’m playing.”
Fritz will face his US Open final rival Jannik Sinner for the title decider after the world No.1 extended his winning streak to 10 matches.

The Italian, cheered on by a home crowd, produced a dominant display against world No.4 Caspar Ruud, downing the Norwegian in straight sets.
But the challenge posed by Fritz has yet to rattle Sinner, much to the American’s disappointment.
“I trust my game and I trust my level and I don’t feel nearly as uncomfortable in these situations anymore,” Fritz said when asked about his feelings ahead of the final.
“I’ve been playing the top guys at big events a lot lately. I’m getting more comfortable in the moment.
“I’m really, really confident in my game… I’m all about always trying to do better than the year before.”
Fritz’s last appearance in the ATP Finals event saw him advance to the semi finals before he was defeated by Novak Djokovic.
If he wins the trophy on Monday, it will mark a clean sweep for the Americans with Coco Gauff claiming the WTA Finals title last week.
