American Airlines will join Delta and United in offering TSA PreCheck Touchless ID.
The service will be available to AAdvantage program members who also have TSA PreCheck.
Individuals screened via Touchless ID can pass through security without presenting an identification document; instead, their identity is verified with facial recognition technology as they face a camera. American has not yet revealed the airports in which it will introduce the offering, nor a specific timeline, but it said the streamlined process will be available “soon.”
To opt-in to American’s program, flyers will be prompted to provide their AAdvantage number, their PreCheck Known Traveler Number and their passport prior to travel. Participants will be enrolled for a year, and they will be able to opt out at any time.
American’s announcement comes on the heels of Delta and United expanding their Touchless ID capabilities to Salt Lake City.
Delta also offers Touchless ID in Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York LaGuardia and New York JFK. It will debut the service at Washington Reagan Airport in November.
United offers the service in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Newark Liberty and LaGuardia.
Delta says Touchless ID moves flyers through PreCheck checkpoints 60% faster than standard PreCheck customers, with automated identity verification taking 7 to 10 seconds, instead of 20 to 25 seconds when presenting documents to a TSA officer.
