Cantos Siemers Selected a CSC Academic All-American – Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Irina Cantos Siemers, the first three-time All-American on the court in Ohio State women’s tennis history, is now the program’s first two-time CSC Academic All-American. Cantos Siemers earned third team honors this year after a first team nod in 2023.
Cantos Siemers was one of four Buckeyes to earn a spot on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, joined by Madeline Atway, Shelly Bereznyak and Sydni Ratliff. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 grade-point average at her current institution and must be in at least their second collegiate season. Select Academic All-District honorees advanced to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, which was voted on by the CSC members. (All-District release) Francesca Di Lorenzo was the program’s first Academic All-American, receiving the honor in 2017.
Cantos Siemers, a native of Brussels, Belgium, earned her undergraduate degree in communications in Autumn 2022 before completing her master’s degree in kinesiology this spring. She is a five-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and will receive her fourth Academic All-Big Ten and ITA Scholar-Athlete honors this spring, along with her second Big Ten Distinguished Scholar nod.
On the court, Cantos Siemers was tabbed an All-American for the third time this spring. She was a No. 9-16 seed in the NCAA singles tournament, where she reached the Round of 16, and finished the year ranked 13th nationally. She also earned a spot in the NCAA doubles tournament with Luciana Perry, with the duo ending the year ranked 25th.
Cantos Siemers was a four-time unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection and the 2023 Big Ten Player of the Year. She ended her career as the Buckeyes’ all-time leader in singles wins (127) and combined singles/doubles victories (224), playing on court one in singles the majority of the last four years. She also stands third all-time in doubles victories. She was a four-time NCAA singles qualifier and a two-time doubles qualifier.
