PSA Airlines, which is moving to Charlotte, is an American Airlines subsidiary that flies regional jets under the name American Eagle.

PSA Airlines, a subsidiary of American Airlines, is moving its headquarters to Charlotte from Dayton, Ohio, and planning to have 400 jobs here.

The airline, which was once called Pacific Southwest Airlines and was known for a smile on the front of the plane, is now one of several airlines that flies under the American Eagle name.

‘Hometown airline’: In a news release on Wednesday, PSA said that the move means that North Carolina is gaining a “hometown airline” as well as job opportunities.

It said it has invited 350 of its 550 Dayton employees to move to Charlotte and plans to locate its headquarters to 2709 Water Ridge Parkway, which is in the Water Ridge Office Park off Tyvola Road not far from the airport. The employees would later this year and into 2026.

“We chose to relocate PSA’s headquarters to Charlotte for several important reasons, including that Charlotte is where most of our daily departures occur and almost all our training is based,” said Dion Flannery, president and CEO of PSA, in a statement.

PSA has more than 750 daily departures, including more than 180 out of Charlotte. It flies Bombardier regional jets to more than 100 markets spanning parts of Canada and the Caribbean, going as far west as Texas, and flying throughout the Midwest and Eastern United States, the company said.

PSA was purchased by American Airlines forerunner USAir in 1987, and USAir started putting the name on another regional carrier it bought in 1995. USAir later became US Airways, which merged with American in 2013.
