THE College Football Playoff announced the schedule for this year’s revised format.
This year’s Playoff is expanding from four teams to 12, and has a much larger schedule to accommodate it.
The First Four round will take place on Friday, December 20 and Saturday, December 21.
Those Saturday games will air on TNT after they were sublicensed by Disney.
The Saturday games are also competing with NFL games, as the league starts Saturday games as the season goes along.
Four quarterfinal games follow the First Four round, all of which will air on ESPN.
One is taking place on Tuesday, December 31. The other three will all play on New Year’s Day.
The Peach Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and Rose Bowl will all be a part of the quarterfinal in their traditional New Year’s Day slot.
ESPN also owns the semifinals, which will air on Thursday, January 9 and Friday, January 10.
The Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl will fill the semifinal spots.
Lastly, the National Championship will take place on Monday, January 20.
This is a whole two weeks later than it was played last college football season.
It will be an interesting case study for the NCAA too, as the National Championship will be played during the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs.
This new format will show if college football can compete with NFL playoff viewing figures.
College football fans have mixed opinions on the new playoff format, and shared their thoughts on social media.
“Way to ruin college football. Congrats,” one fan said.
“Literally waited a lifetime for this,” another fan said.
