Caleb Williams is feeling ready for the start of his rookie season.
During an appearance on SportsCenter, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said that Williams is “really excited” about the Chicago Bears offense for the 2024 season:
“[Sources] said in the early stages you can feel and see the major talent that he is. It’s immense, the way he throws the ball, smooth mover in the pocket. The key is the NFL transition to their system with play-action, movement under center. It’s just going to take some time from what he went through at USC. But I’m told Williams is really excited about the pro-style offense. He’s been working on the Bears’ system since early April before the draft, trying to get the footwork in, the nuances of everything. And so, that’s going to be a huge focus in training camp, but they expect him to pick it up in a hurry.”
The Bears selected Williams with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and he carries significant potential. He threw for 10,082 yards with 93 touchdowns and 14 interceptions across three seasons at the collegiate level, and won the 2022 Heisman Trophy for his strong play at USC.
He joins a Bears team that passed on taking a quarterback with the top selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, but could not pass up the chance to take Williams in 2024. The foundation is solid in Chicago, as the team went 7-10 and only earned the No. 1 pick as a result of its trade with the Carolina Panthers in 2023 that sent that year’s No. 1 pick to Carolina.
Williams has a receiving corps that consists of D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen and 2024 No. 9 pick Rome Odunze. This arsenal of talent should aid Williams as he approaches his first season as a professional and aims to steer the Bears back to the postseason.
