After joining the Pittsburgh Steelers on a two-year contract this offseason, Cordarrelle Patterson is prepared to fill a variety of roles with the team, and fantasy football managers should take note.
Patterson told The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly that he is more than ready for the possibility of playing the hybrid “Joker” position with the Steelers, which would allow him to contribute as a running back, receiver and kick returner.
“Whatever they need,” Patterson said. “I can play it all. I know my role, and I know what I can bring to this team. Whatever they need me to do, I am that guy. If they don’t need me until Week 8, then I am here. I am here to help these guys get going.”
Patterson, who owns the NFL record with nine kickoff return touchdowns, is used to wearing multiple hats because it has helped him stick around in the league for 11 years. During his last three years with the Atlanta Falcons, he was deployed in multiple positions and showed the ability to excel regardless of where he was lined up.
The 33-year-old fully embraced his “Joker” role, posting pictures of Batman’s nemesis on social media and showing up wearing a full Joker costume in Week 8 of the 2023 season, which was two days before Halloween. He even wore custom-made Joker cleats for that game.
Kaloby noted that the Steelers “have offered no clues about how they plan to use Patterson,” but it can be expected that he will have ample opportunities to have the ball in his hands.
Fantasy football managers could land Patterson as a late-round steal in upcoming drafts who can produce in a variety of ways.
