Jessica Pegula may have gone down by a set in the semifinal of the Women’s singles event at the US Open 2024. However, when it mattered the most, she showed her resilience and came back from behind to beat Karolina Muchova 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the fixture and reach her maiden Grand slam final late on Thursday night.
Pegula’s win not only ensured her a place in the final of the summit clash but meant that at 30 she would be the oldest player in a debut Grand Slam final at the US Open since Flavia Pennetta who had managed to achieve that feat in 2015. She is the third American woman aged 30 or above to make an entry into the US Open final after Serena Williams and Martina Navratilova.
