It’s hard to get away from the claims of IMPAIRE ET PASSE, who was in a different league to the rest of this field over hurdles last season, and he’s going to be hard to beat with a clear round-on-chase debut.
Now Is The Hour could be the one to chase him home with a fair chase run at the back end of last season under his belt, and both Staffordshire Knot and Answer To Kayf are each-way players if they hit the ground running on their chase debuts.
Shajak will have a big chance if he can cut out the jumping errors, while the yard is also represented by in-form General Hubble, who is bidding for a hat-trick.
Toofareastiswest is weighted to reverse the form with that one, but a chance is taken on SAM MAGEE, who was chucked in at the deep end last time and will find this easier.
It will be interesting to see whether the money arrives for American Mike after he was notably well-backed for Troytown before finishing sixth. But with concerns over the trip, it may be worth siding with an out-and-out two-miler on this ground.
REBEL GOLD fits the bill, having come down to a fair mark in this sphere, and his promising return over timber should put him spot on for this. The Big Chap arrives in better form than most and could be the main danger.
Plenty of nice prospects here, none more so than A DREAM TO SHARE (nap), who won a cracking renewal of the Champion Bumper in 2023 before following up at the Punchestown festival, and he could be hard to beat if he’s anywhere near that sort of level.
Ballygunner Castle has made a promising start to his career, and the same can be said for both Sommesky and Ballybow, who are unbeaten under rules.
The promise of rain bodes well for the chances of BOTTLERSECRET, who was behind Givemefive and Dodger Long at Cheltenham on his return. Good ground and conceding 8lb to those rivals didn’t help him on the day, but he can get back on track now.
French recruit Anzadam is worth a market check, while Jack Kennedy has opted to ride Kala Conti of the Elliott pair. Wodhooh is respected but will find this tougher.
The lightly raced Stormbreaker is entitled to improve again, given his yard, but APPLES OF BRESIL took his form to new heights when bolting up over this trip at Gowran last month and should take all the beating.
Dangers include the consistent Disco Dancer, recent Clonmel winner Brave Fortune, and Stuntman Steve.
It’s a bit of a lottery, but the step up in trip should suit TONAGHNEAVE WELL, and his recent consistency can be rewarded. Warm In Gorey finished off well when scoring at Thurles and will make his challenge late, while Golden Joy could be well ahead of his mark. Old Bill Barley and Farmers Lodge are also considered.
The finale can go the way of FAITHFUL FOLLOWER, who went close when pulling clear with a nice prospect at Down Royal earlier in the month, and he should be able to build on that.
You Proof is likely to be a big threat given his trainer’s record in bumpers, particularly over the last 12 months, and point winner Ma Jacks Hill could be the best of Gordon Elliott’s trio.
