Women’s tennis has seen many players ushering their domination on the court. From the likes of Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert to Venus and Serena Williams, these players have ruled the tennis circuit for years. Another player that is making waves in this direction currently is Iga Swiatek. As the Polish star dominates the WTA Tour, Andy Roddick made a candid revelation about her.
As the French Open nears, Swiatek is on a roll by winning back-to-back titles in Madrid and Rome. Additionally, she did so by defeating one of her greatest rivals, Aryna Sabalenka, in the finals of both tournaments. During a recent episode of Served with Andy Roddick podcast, the American tennis legend revealed how Swiatek is unaffected by the talks going on in the tennis circle.

He revealed, “Like anyone who spends time previewing or making predictions outside, ok Iga’s probably going to win but the draw, she’s like immune to a lot of conversation.”
Further, owing to her brilliant run of late, she achieved a unique feat once held by none other than Serena Williams. The Polish star became the only woman apart from Williams in 2015 to achieve more than 11,000 ranking points on the WTA rankings chart. While Williams achieved a peak of 12,721 points, Swiatek now has 11,695 points. As a result, with her growing dominance, Roddick feels that no predictions or preview can affect Swiatek’s game.

Despite Swiatek dominating the WTA Tour, Roddick made a bold prediction recently. The American tennis legend got real about who has a better chance to win the French Open which begins later this month.
The World Number 1 will look to defend her title in Paris and make it a hat-trick of Roland Garros titles. However, she will face a tough challenge from the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff. But according to Andy Roddick, Swiatek will face the biggest challenge from Elena Rybakina, who has a good record over Swiatek.

Roddick mentioned, “I think I’d take Rybakina only because she doesn’t dislike the matchup against Iga as much as everyone else. She played well against her Rome last year, beat her a couple of weeks ago in Stuttgart. I think I take Rybakina just based on recent form and that specific matchup with Iga.”

Statistically speaking, in the 6 matches between Rybakina and Swiatek, the latter has just 2 wins. As a result, Roddick feels that Swiatek’s biggest hurdle will come in the form of Rybakina. Nonetheless, as Roddick mentioned before, Swiatek is unaffected by the outside noise and will step on the court in Paris to defend her title.
