The Brotherly Shove, the tush push, call it what you will.
Whatever name it goes by, the Philadelphia Eagles ‘guaranteed touchdown is becoming the most controversial play in football.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and his O-line are almost impossible to stop on short-yardage situations thanks to the inventive play, spearheaded by Jason Kelce before his retirement.
The NFL Championship game saw the creative weapon, which sees the entire offense shove their QB over the line, reach farcical new levels of controversy as the Washington Commanders tried in vain to stop it.
With Hurts looking to score his third rushing touchdown of the day on second and goal in the fourth quarter, Frankie Luvu had seen enough.
The Commanders linebacker threw himself over the O-line before the ball had been snapped for the most obvious example of jumping offsides you will ever see.
The penalty moved the ball to the one-yard line and Luvu tried the exact same trick — with the same result.
Defensive end Jonathan Allen was flagged for encroachment on the next attempt at the second down, which Fox Sports commentator Kevin Burkhardt called the ‘longest in football.’
Referee Shawn Hochuli then announced a rare warning.
“The Commanders have been advised that at some point the referee can award a score if this type of behavior happens again,” he said. “For now, it’s a replay of second down.”
Hurts eventually punched in from inches away with over a minute taken off the clock to give the Eagles a 40-23 lead.
Many fans were furious at the ridiculous scene, calling for the play to be banned.
“Please just ban tush push,” wrote one.
“This sucks and everyone knows it,” added a second.
“Ban the Tush Push. It’s not even football. Absolute joke,” a third posted.
“That was Groundhog Day! NFL Style,” said a fourth.
Hurts’ first rushing score of the day also came via the Brotherly Shove.
A penalty lead to a short attempt at a two-point conversion following the score which the Commanders did manage to stop – proving that it is possible.
But despite having several injuries up front, the Eagles’ ground game was too much for their opponents.
Saquon Barkley and Hurts combined for SIX rushing touchdowns in a dominant 55-23 triumph that featured a postseason record equalling seven TDs on the ground.
The dual-threat quarterback had 10 carries for just 16 yards, as well as throwing for 246 and a TD.
Barkley set the tone early as he ran through would-be tacklers for a 60-yard house call on Philadelphia’s first offensive play.
Finishing with 118 yards and a hat-trick, it was a continuation of one of the greatest running back seasons of all time.
Barkley is the only man with three 60-plus-yard scores in a single postseason.
He is now just 30 yards shy of breaking Terell Davis’ record of 2,476 yards from the 1998 season as he prepares to take on the Buffalo Bills or Kansas City Chiefs in February’s Super Bowl.
