During the busy holiday season, delays are expected. However, a recent American Airlines flight to Las Vegas was instead diverted back to Chicago after just two hours in the sky. A spokesperson for American Airlines briefly pointed to maintenance issues, without much of an explanation. FlightRadar 24 went a little more in depth with what might’ve taken place on the flight.
Thankfully, flight 1047 was able to land back in Chicago without any issues.

According to the latest from Fox News Digital, an American Airlines flight was redirected back to Chicago for “possible maintenance issues.” Flight 1047 had left from Chicago O’Hare International Airport toward Las Vegas. A spokesperson for the airline did issue a statement, and claimed the redirected flight was able to land safely.
“Flight 1047 returned to ORD for a possible maintenance issue,” the spokesperson said. “The flight landed safely and taxied to the gate.”
Although the issues were not disclosed, FlightRadar 24’s data revealed multiple door warning light indications, according to The New York Post.
The flight departed at 8 am, and was diverted back to Chicago at 10 am. According to the tracking from Flightaware, it took off a second time later in the afternoon, and was expected to land at 2 pm.
As expected, there was a lot of worry among travelers. Over on The New York Post, several users wrote about their concerns.
One person wrote, “Are these issues happenstance OR is someone making them happen? I am a nervous flyer at the best of times, these recurring incidents make me want to drive everywhere.”
Another user claims these incidents happen frequently, but aren’t always reported on. “I was on an American Airlines Airbus A321 a month ago that made an emergency landing, fire trucks and all, at Phoenix. Had to get another airplane to finish up the trip. How’d that happen?”
With the busy holiday travel set to take place, passengers are hoping these types of delays are less frequent.

We’re 30,000 feet in the air flying 300 and something miles an hour. There wasn’t any time to think, you just had to do something right now.”
