With the Thanksgiving holiday followed by Black Friday, plenty of people will have a full four-day weekend in November. For the second year in a row, the NFL is making sure it’s full of football.
Following the three games on Thanksgiving Day, there will be another NFL contest on Black Friday, once again on Amazon Prime.
The NFL had a game on Black Friday in 2023 as well, the first time it scheduled a game on the post-Thanksgiving shopping day. In that inaugural contest, the Dolphins topped the Jets 34-13.
Who will be playing on Black Friday this year? Here’s what you need to know.

This will be the second year the NFL holds an NFL game on Black Friday, following last year’s debut of the game on Amazon.
This year will feature the Chiefs facing off against Raiders in a showdown of AFC West opponents at Arrowhead Stadium.
Here’s the Black Friday schedule, including kickoff time and live stream for the matchup.
Matchup | Time (ET) | Live stream |
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders | 3 p.m. | Amazon Prime Video |
For the first time since 2006, the Chiefs are playing on the last Thursday in November, as Arrowhead Stadium will host a divisional matchup against the Raiders on the holiday. It is Kansas City’s 11th Thanksgiving game in franchise history, with the club holding an even 5-5 record.
For Las Vegas, it was on TV screens for the turkey holiday in 2021. The Raiders bested the Cowboys in Dallas, leaving Jerry World with a 36-33 overtime win. Like its 2024 opponent, the franchise has just as many wins as losses on Thanksgiving, holding a 4-4 record on the holiday.
The NFL does not traditionally play on Friday, but that has started to change in recent years. Dating back to 1970, there had only been 10 games played on Fridays prior to 2020. The 2020 season featured the Saints and Vikings meeting up Christmas, which was on a Friday, and the 2023 season saw the Jets and Dolphins play on Black Friday.
The Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 has traditionally been the barrier keeping the NFL from putting games on Fridays or Saturdays. The workaround has often been that the act prohibits Friday and Saturday games only until the second Saturday of December, leaving open games around Christmas.
How does the NFL have the ability then to have the Black Friday game? The other aspect of the law is that the broadcasts can’t feature “all or a substantial part” of a game after 6 p.m. ET on Fridays. With the game starting at 3 p.m. ET, the NFL is hoping to ensure the game is squeezed in before 6 p.m. ET. Last year’s game ended at exactly three hours.
In other words, the NFL has games on Black Friday now because it’s another opportunity to get in a featured broadcast on an otherwise light sports day on the calendar.
