The production from Michael Penix Jr. in his two seasons at Washington was phenomenal (9,500 yards, 77 TDs, 19 INTs), and he proved his ability as a big-game player this season while leading the Huskies to two wins over Oregon and one over Texas in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

So what’s not to like about the slingin’ lefty, and why aren’t his NFL draft odds better?

He has a supremely strong arm, but he tries to use that strength too often. It works well on big passes downfield and outside the numbers, but it doesn’t work well in the middle of the field.
