IRVING, Texas – Pablo Alemany of Memphis and Victoria Gomez O’Hayon of Florida Atlantic have been named as the No. 1 seeds in singles in the 2024 American Athletic Conference Individual Tennis Championships, which begin Thursday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center at Rice University.
The American Individual Championships will be conducted for the first time in 2024 as the conference determines men’s and women’s champions in singles and doubles. The singles and doubles champions will represent the American Athletic Conference at the ITA Conference Masters Championships Nov. 7-10 in Rome, Georgia.
Two singles players and one doubles tandem from each of the American Athletic Conference’s 11 men’s teams and 13 women’s teams will compete for the individual titles.
The top seed in men’s doubles is Charlotte’s tandem of Vasco Prata and Matias Iturbe, who are ranked No. 9 in the ITA preseason rankings. The No. 1 seed in women’s doubles is Florida Atlantic’s duo of Millie-Mae Matthews and Malwina Rowinska.
First-round play in singles and doubles begins Thursday, Oct. 24, while the round of 16 in singles concludes Thursday afternoon. The quarterfinals in singles and doubles will be played Friday, Oct. 25, followed by Saturday’s semifinals and Sunday’s championship finals.
Consolation brackets in men’s and women’s singles will also be played, allowing each student-athlete the opportunity to play at least two matches.
