All of the major races on All American Futurity weekend will be on Monday, Sept. 2, at least for this year.
Ruidoso Downs Race Track General Manager Rick Baugh announced Aug. 12 that the five major Labor Day weekend races will all be scheduled for the final day of the holiday weekend to be run at Downs of Albuquerque.
“This gives horse owners and trainers plenty of time to attend the All American Horse Sales here on Friday and Saturday,” Baugh said. “We’re currently working to put together a final schedule for Labor Day that will include our four Grade 1 stakes races.”
The Labor Day race card will include the $3 million All American Futurity, $1 million All American Derby, $625,000 All American Oaks, $250,000 All American Gold Cup and $100,000 All American Invitational.
First post for Labor Day has been tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Downs at Albuquerque is hosting the All American races this year after floods damage the racetrack in Ruidoso last month. The trials for the All American Futurity, All American Derby and All American Oaks were held this past week and 10 horses qualified in each race.
Typically, the All American Derby and All American Oaks are held on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.
