Super Bowl Sunday is America in an afternoon. Barbecue and snack bowls galore. Showbiz and stars mixing in a city that’s firmly down to earth. From mid-day when Fox’s coverage began on Bourbon street, you saw the realness of people come through in their excitement and love of the biggest sporting event of the year. People driving Lamborghinis and 1990s Ford pick-up trucks dressed in the same jerseys, expressing feelings of hope and delusion, togetherness and division – and at the end of it all, there are winners and losers.
It also is a day that produced unlikely heroes making the killer blows. Cooper DeJean is a cornerback who turned 22 yesterday. His position is regarded as one of the hardest positions to play in American football, and he was drafted by the Eagles in April to occupy what had become a crucial spot they needed to fill after a disappointing year.
