American Airlines has had an extraordinary year in 2024, completing over 2.1 million flights and covering a staggering 1.8 billion miles—enough to circle the Earth nearly 74,000 times. With more than 275 million seats offered throughout the year, the airline has continuously provided travelers with countless choices for their journeys. But it’s not just about the numbers; it’s the unique experiences that make American Airlines stand out. Here’s a closer look at the remarkable services and trends that defined 2024 and what’s in store for 2025.
A Year of Exceptional Service for Travelers
American Airlines made sure its passengers enjoyed an elevated experience both before and during their travels. In its nearly 50 lounges, the airline served over 594,000 espressos, keeping guests refreshed during their wait. For those looking to unwind, bartenders at Admirals Club® and Flagship® Lounge poured more than 420,000 complimentary glasses of sparkling wine for passengers 21 and older.
On board, American Airlines offered a variety of in-flight snacks, with nearly 124 million packs of Biscoff® cookies ordered over the year and an average of nearly 6,000 food carts rolled down the aisles daily. In terms of entertainment, action films proved to be the most popular choice for passengers, while comedy TV shows kept others entertained during their flights. For long-haul travelers, more than 3 million amenity kits featuring curated skincare from Thirteen Lune were distributed on international flights to destinations such as London, Buenos Aires, and Brisbane.
Top Destinations of 2024
American Airlines flies to over 350 destinations in more than 60 countries, but some locations have emerged as clear favorites among travelers this year. For couples seeking a romantic getaway, Cancun, Mexico; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Las Vegas were the top destinations. Families gravitated towards Cancun, Orlando, and London.
When it comes to AAdvantage® members, the airline’s frequent flyer program, Orlando, Boston, and Austin, Texas, were the top domestic destinations for miles redemption, while international trips to London, Cancun, and San Jose del Cabo were the most popular choices for using AAdvantage miles.
Certain destinations also stood out for early bookings, with Athens, Greece; Rome; and Naples, Italy, topping the list for customers who planned their trips far in advance.
For those looking for the longest flights, American Airlines’ longest routes of 2024 included Brisbane to Dallas-Fort Worth (8,303 miles), Los Angeles to Sydney (7,488 miles), and Auckland to Dallas-Fort Worth (7,440 miles).
